Dear Classmates:

Yes, it has been five long years since our last Reunion of Classes.  We hope you will mark your calendars for Saturday, April 29, 2023, for the next Reunion of Classes to be held at the Marvell Methodist Church on Hwy. 49.  We will have a full day at the reunion from the morning Pledge of Allegiance and prayer until the last dance at Eddie Bartlett’s son’s shop on Highway 1. South that night.  You will not want to miss an opportunity to search for old friends, exchange email address, etcetera!  Once again, the classes from 1947 through 1977, and beyond, are having a combined reunion.  The hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with registration beginning at 10:00 a.m.

This will be the last Reunion of Classes this reunion committee will host.  We hope you will make an extra effort to attend.

It is very important that you check in at the registration booth when you arrive.

Each class is encouraged to plan its own activities for the rest of the weekend.  Send us an email or a letter if you have some ideas for your class and we will put you in touch with your classmates via email.  Other than the 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. reunion hours, the only other organized gathering will be the Saturday night dance to be held at the Bartless’s shop on Highway 1 South.

As in the past, there is no registration fee.  However, we do ask for a donation of $30.00 per person (maximum of $60.00 for you and your immediate family) to defray the cost of the reunion and to provide funds the Marvell Civic Club.  Of course, any donation is welcome.  As a part of the donation, a catfish or chicken strips dinner will be provided for lunch and appetizers will be provided for the dance.  Rather than increase the donation request this year, a group of young people will sell soft drinks, water, coffee, and pastries during the day., You will need to bring your own beverages to the dance, but we will provide soft drinks, water, ice, and cups.

The money cleared from the reunion will be given to the Marvell Civic Club for whatever purposes the club deems is most in need.  In the past, the money made from the reunions was given to the Civic Club to help maintain the old High School building.  The building is now in such a deteriorated condition, no one can use the building for anything.

We will not send out another letter because of the cost, so make use of the web page, shown above, for updated information.  Send us any student email addresses you have.  Please notify your relatives and friends about the reunion.  We may not have your relatives’ or friends’ email address or postal address.

The reunion is your reunion.  One way to make it the best it can be is for each of you to get involved to some degree.  We ask that you commit to contacting ten of your high school friends to invite them.

Since the 2018 Reunion of Classes, we have lost more than 130 MHS students, one coach, and one principal.  We hope you will use this reunion to reconnect with old friends.  This will be the 10th Reunion of Classes.

Thank you, The Reunion of Classes committee

ALMA MATER

On Ole Marvell’s northern borders,
Reared against the sky.
Proudly stands our Alma Mater,
As the years go by.

Forward, ever, be our watchword,
Conquer and prevail.
Hail to thee, our Alma Mater,
Marvell High, all hail!

Cherished by our sons and daughters,
Memories sweet shall throng.
‘Round our hearts our Alma Mater,
As we sing our songs.

Forward, ever, be our watchword,
Conquer and prevail.
Hail to thee, our Alma Mater,
Marvell High, all hail!

FOOD NOTES

The registration fee of $30.00 per person ($60.00 maximum per immediate family) entitles you and your immediate family to enjoy the day’s activities including lunch.  For example, if you bring your spouse and two children, the maximum you pay is $60.00.   Food expenses have increased over the years; however, we decided to not increase the donation suggestion.  We decided to NOT provide drinks and water during the day.  A church youth group will sell drinks and water during the day at a reasonable price.  As a part of your donations, we will provide a catfish or chicken strips dinner for lunch and appetizers for the dance.  We will NOT provide set-ups for the Saturday night dance.  If you want to bring an appetizer for Saturday night, please do so.

Hors D’oeurves and Dance

The Saturday evening social and dance will be held at the Bartlett Shop.

The Hors D’oevrves will begin at 6:00 p.m. and the dance, with a D.J., will follow shortly thereafter.

We will provide ice, cups, and a little bit of water for the social and dance.  We will NOT provide set-ups.

This will NOT be a full meal but rather simple appetizers.

NOTE:  Because of the current condition of our beloved High School Building and American Legion Hut, we have had to adapt and seek other locations for our reunion and dance.  No one hates this more than we do; however, it is just something we have to accept at this time.  The change in locations will not, however, dampen our spirits.  We will adapt and enjoy ourselves.
